100% of an inventory order's cost is what Kickfurther's consignment funding can cover, and you repay it as the stock sells. The alternatives for a CPG brand are purchase order financing and invoice factoring when a retailer has ordered the goods, revenue-based financing when most sales are online, and a bank line or equity when the need is the whole business. At Spring, purchase order financing and invoice factoring cost 12% to 36% a year, and the first funding waits on your retailer acknowledging a Notice of Assignment.

This post explains how consignment funding works, lays out each alternative and when it fits, and compares Kickfurther with Spring on the five questions that decide it. Everything about Kickfurther comes from its own public pages, read in October 2026 and footnoted at the end. We sell two of the options, so check our work. It is not legal or financial advice.

How does consignment inventory funding work?

Kickfurther buys your inventory with money from its community of funders, consigns it back to you, and you pay it back as the stock sells.1

Kickfurther says it will fund up to 100% of the cost of goods, up to $5 million, for brands with at least $200,000 in trailing twelve-month revenue, and that you make no payments until you receive the new inventory and start selling it.2 The price is a percentage funding fee plus monthly consignment fees, quoted per deal; the funding fee falls with repeat use, and faster sales can lower the monthly part.2 Because repayment follows sell-through, it suits stock sold through many channels at once.

What are the alternatives to consignment inventory funding?

Six, and which one fits depends on who has agreed to pay for the goods.

  • Purchase order financing. A funder pays your supplier against a signed purchase order from a retailer or distributor, and that customer's payment settles it. It covers part of the cost, not all of it: Spring pays up to 60%.
  • Invoice factoring. Once you ship and invoice, a factor advances most of the invoice and is repaid when the retailer pays. It does not pay for production, but it frees the cash for the next run.
  • Demand plan financing. Funding sized on a retailer's demand plan rather than on one order, which you repay monthly.
  • Revenue-based financing. Companies such as Clearco and Wayflyer advance a sum against your online sales for a flat fee, repaid from revenue every week or every day. We worked through what that fee costs per year in revenue-based financing vs invoice factoring.
  • A bank line or SBA-backed financing. Usually the cheapest money a business can get, if you qualify and it is already in place; setting one up takes weeks to months.
  • Equity. Right for money the whole brand needs for years; an expensive way to pay for one season's stock.

Is Spring an alternative to Kickfurther?

Yes, when the stock is going to a retailer or distributor that has ordered it; no, when no one has ordered it yet.

The two fund different things. Kickfurther funds the inventory, so it is measured against what the goods cost. Spring funds the order, so it ends up measured against what the retailer has agreed to pay. On a $600,000 order that costs $360,000 to make, consignment funding can cover the whole $360,000 up front; Spring pays your supplier $216,000 and tops the funding up to $480,000 once you invoice, at an illustrative 80% advance rate. The full worked example is in consignment inventory funding vs PO financing.

Who repays decides what a slow month costs. With consignment funding, a slower sell-through stretches the term, and part of the price is monthly, so ask what an extra month adds. With Spring, repayment is the retailer's payment: if it pays ten days late, the fee covers ten more days, and nothing leaves your bank account in the meantime.

When is Kickfurther the better choice?

  • You sell mostly online, or through many channels at once. No retailer invoice means nothing for Spring to fund.
  • No retailer has ordered the stock yet. You are building inventory ahead of demand you cannot show on a purchase order.
  • You need the whole production cost covered before the goods ship, and cannot find the other 40%.

Kickfurther describes itself as one layer of a brand's capital stack.3 If one provider funds the inventory and another the invoice, ask both, in writing, who is paid first when the retailer pays.

What does Spring need that Kickfurther does not?

A Notice of Assignment. Purchase order financing, invoice factoring and demand plan financing all require one: a letter asking your retailer to pay your invoices to an account Spring holds for you. Your retailer will know you have a funding partner, and your first funding waits until it acknowledges the notice, which usually takes days and occasionally a couple of weeks. It does not change your price, your terms or your shelf. What a NOA is and what it changes. Bridge Funding is the one Spring product that needs no notice.

Frequently asked questions

What are the alternatives to Kickfurther?

For stock a retailer has ordered: purchase order financing, which pays your supplier against the order, and invoice factoring, which advances the invoice once you ship; the retailer's payment repays both. For online sales: revenue-based financing from companies such as Clearco or Wayflyer. For the whole business: a bank line or equity. Spring offers purchase order financing and invoice factoring at 12% to 36% a year.

Is Spring an alternative to Kickfurther?

Yes, for brands selling to retailers or distributors on net terms. Kickfurther funds inventory and you repay it as the stock sells; Spring funds the retailer's order and invoice, and the retailer's payment repays it. Spring does not fund stock no retailer has ordered. The two compared on one order.

Is Kickfurther or purchase order financing cheaper?

Work out both per year. Kickfurther charges a funding fee plus monthly consignment fees, quoted per deal, so the yearly cost depends on how fast the stock sells. Spring's purchase order financing costs 12% to 36% a year, charged only on the days the money is out, and ends when the retailer pays.

Does Kickfurther fund 100% of inventory?

Kickfurther says it will fund up to 100% of the cost of goods, up to $5 million, for brands with at least $200,000 in trailing yearly revenue. Purchase order financing usually covers part of the cost: Spring pays up to 60% to your supplier, then tops the funding up when you invoice the retailer.

Can I use Kickfurther and Spring together?

Sometimes. A brand might fund online stock through consignment and a retailer order through Spring. Where both touch the same goods, ask each provider in writing who is paid first when the retailer pays, because Spring's Notice of Assignment directs that payment to an account Spring holds for you.

Does my retailer find out if I use Spring instead of Kickfurther?

Yes. Spring sends your retailer a Notice of Assignment asking it to pay your invoices to an account Spring holds for you, and your first funding waits on the retailer acknowledging it. Retailers process these routinely. What a NOA is.
